Coal in Antioquia was more than just a natural resource; it was the fuel for economic progress in a region that was carving its way through the mountains to become one of Colombia’s leading industrial and economic centers.

He played a key role in the development of the Antioquia Railroad, which connected Medellín to the Magdalena River and the Caribbean Sea. Thanks to coal as an energy source, it was possible to transport steam locomotives, freight, and passengers across the region’s rugged mountainous terrain.
