From colony to metropolis

Day 1:

You’ll take the metro to Medellín’s historic center, where you’ll explore the city’s iconic landmarks and learn about its history, gaining insight into how the city has evolved from its founding to the present day. You’ll discover the city’s mass transit system, which will take you to Comuna 13, where you’ll learn about the resilience its residents demonstrated during difficult times and experience Medellín’s urban art scene. Finally, at Mercados del Río, you’ll enjoy a culinary experience that fosters interaction between the chef, the food, and the diners.

Day 2:

In Santa Fe de Antioquia, in the shade of the trees, you can enjoy the town’s leisurely pace. Just a few steps from the plaza is the Juan del Corral Museum, a space that preserves the region’s colonial history. Another of the town’s great treasures is the art of filigree, in which artisans transform silver wires into delicate pieces of jewelry. To wrap up the tour, we’ll head to the Puente de Occidente. Crossing it on foot is a fascinating experience, offering spectacular views of the Cauca River and the surrounding mountainous landscape.

Day 3:

Jericó has a long history of leatherwork, and you'll learn about the process of making a carriel (a traditional leather satchel) in a saddlery workshop. Afterward, you can choose which one you'll take home as a souvenir. This isn't just any souvenir; it's the Jericó carriel, a symbol of the region's rich muleteer tradition. You'll also visit the botanical garden, a stunning place to relax and observe, with minimal effort, some of the many species of birds and butterflies that flit about.

Day 4:

Once in Jardín, very early in the morning, around 5:00 am, you'll set out in search of the Andean cock-of-the-rock, an exotic bird that lives in the mountain forests. Then you'll participate in the arepa festival, where you'll have breakfast and experience the local culture firsthand. Afterward, you'll head to the Cave of Splendor, where you can connect with nature, learn about the diverse habitats, and discover how to care for them. During the tour, you'll have the opportunity to leave your mark and plant a tree. In the afternoon, you'll return to town to check out and then fly back to Medellín.

You will live:

On this unique journey, you'll discover the evolution of Antioquia, from the modernity of Medellín, through the colonial legacy of Santa Fe de Antioquia, the artisanal heritage of the carriel (a traditional leather satchel) in Jericó, and the authentic Paisa culture of Jardín. Each day reveals a different facet of the region, creating a comprehensive experience full of history, culture, landscapes, and traditions. This 4-day tour of Antioquia is an unforgettable experience, ideal for travelers who want to explore the historical, urban, and traditional diversity of the department through four iconic destinations.
