Titiribí is a key destination for understanding Antioquia’s mining history and its impact on Medellín’s economic and industrial development. Renowned for its gold deposits since the 19th century, Titiribí established itself as one of Colombia’s leading gold mining centers, standing out in particular due to the influence of the iconic El Zancudo Mine. In the mid-19th century, the El Zancudo Mine became one of the country’s most important mining projects, providing a strong boost to the regional economy, foreign investment, and business development in Antioquia. Gold mining not only spurred Titiribí’s growth but also laid the foundation for the accumulation of capital that would later drive Medellín’s industrialization in the 20th century.
